How to Choose the Perfect Ventilation System for Your Home

What is Ventilation?
Ventilation involves removing stale air and supply fresh air in a building. Traditional ventilation always relied on natural ventilation which is the flow of air between the outside and the inside of any building, this can be done via wall vents, window trickle vents or an extract fan.
New builds are now moving on towards the mechanical means via heat recovery ventilation systems (MVHR), which is a system that is continuously supplying fresh air and extracting stale air simultaneously whilst recovering heat.
Then we have centralised mechanical extract ventilation (MEV), which is a continuously running extract system which in turn results in fresh air being drawn in from outside through a trickle vent in the window.
Why it is Ventilation Important?
Ventilation is important and if we have no ventilation, we will have no control of the airflow in a building. Some reasons are;
- It regulates air flow in your home or building, supplying fresh air in your home
- It helps control household/building temperatures.
- Removes polluted or stale air from your home.
- Reduces the risk of condensation and mould forming.
- It has positive impacts on our health and wellbeing.
Ventilation, Indoor Air Quality and Our Health
An average person spends the majority of a 24-hour period indoors, whether that is at work or in their homes. Therefore, it is vital, that the air that we are breathing is good quality air, as this is essential to our over health.

Tips that may be helpful to you
- If it is a nice and dry day, open the windows.
- Use an Air purifier when you can.
- Install extract fans to remove moisture in your home, which would reduce condensation and mould issues (bathroom and kitchen)
